Morning Confusion

Sunrise through windowA cool breeze crept into the room. Sam got a chill from the cold fall air and started to wake. The morning sunrise broke through his eyelids as he started to open them. It was a beautiful morning.

Sam tried to clear his eyes and his head as it was still effected from the bender of the night before. He started to look around the room as his eyes started to focus clearly. The room was strange and wasn’t familiar at all. He looked around for any clues of where he was. A picture, a paper with a name, anything would do. Unfortunately there was nothing that would help. Finally he spotted something familiar. It was his pants.

In a panic he quickly felt around his body thinking about all the urban legends that he had heard. Relieved that he didn’t find any stitches or open wounds, he quickly rushed to put his pants on and tried to find the rest of his clothes. He found all his clothes except for his shirt. “Where could it be” he thought to himself. Looking frantically all over the place he couldn’t find it anywhere.

“Fuck it!” he said as he started to stand up and head toward the door. At that moment he started to smell the delightful aroma of a homemade breakfast.

Still concerned about not knowing where he was, Sam slowly opened the bedroom door and started trying to creep out of the house. As he was making his exit he tried to keep an eye out for anyone. As he crossed the opening to the kitchen he got a glimpse of someone in his shirt. He paused in his tracks and slowly started to lean in for a better look.

He noticed it was the most beautiful woman that he had ever seen. “It must have been a great night” was the thought that ran through his head. Then as he was staring in amazement at this beautiful woman cooking breakfast, she turned around. Sam was startled and she remarked “About time you woke up sleepy head”. Still a little confused Sam could barely utter out the word yes.

“It was such a wonderful night! I can’t believe it,” the mysterious woman said.

Sam just sat there racking his brain trying to figure out what had happened. How could he not remember anything about this woman? She finally started noticing the dazed and confused look that Sam had. Her beautiful smile started to turn into a serious look.

“You do remember me, right?” she asked in a stern tone.

Trying his best not to upset her, Sam tried to think of a line to get him out of this mess. All he could do though was sit in silence as he was drawing a blank.

Finally she broke the silence and just ordered him to leave. Clearly she was very taken by Sam, but it tore her up that he couldn’t even remember who she was. Sam could do nothing but comply with her wishes and left.

As he started his car and started to drive off, he couldn’t help but wonder how he could have forgotten meeting his dream woman and what could have been between them. At that moment he swore to himself, “I’m never drinking again!”.

I was originally born in Missouri, but traveled around most of my childhood. My mom finally got tired of moving while we were in Dallas, Texas and I have been here ever since. After high school I started college at the University of North Texas (UNT) and started working in the computer field. I currently work for JCPenney as a front end software engineer for their e-commerce website. Before this I worked for AT&T about 12 years and started with them in 1999 (when they were Southwestern Bell). I have many passions and I really love photography. Besides photography I also love sports. I not only like to watch it, but I also love to play. Currently my friends and I play indoor soccer and flag football.
