Using Flexbox to Create Fluid Grid with Equal Heights in Rows

Recently I dealt with an interesting challenge with how to create a layout for a particular scenario. I had a webpage that displayed products in tiles. I needed the tiles of a certain width but needed the tiles to automatically wrap to the next line based on screen width. The tiles also needed to have the same height as the tallest tile in that row. The page was originally setup using a ul as the parent container and then the li elements to  actually hold the tile data. The li elements floated left to have a fluid grid. This was fine when …

Why I Don’t Get the Point of CoffeeScript

Being a front-end developer I have heard people talk about using CoffeeScript to code their  JavaScript. I didn’t really give it much thought because I didn’t really care to learn a new language. Lately there have been some new possibilities at work for using new technologies and I ran across someone using CoffeeScript. So I figured it would be a good idea to check it out. As I looked at CoffeeScript and read documentation for it, I just got the feeling I was missing something. I truly didn’t see the point of it. Why would I want to learn new …

-webkit-overflow-scrolling causing mobile safari to crash

As a web developer, have you ever had that problem that was really hard to track down? I recently ran into such a problem. Since I’m just starting out and don’t really have a huge budget for marketing I set out to find something useful that could be done within my budget. During my search I stumbled upon a …

Exploring JavaFX

I began learning the Java programming language back in my sophomore year in college in 1997. At the time it was just getting off the ground. It had new versions coming out pretty quickly and they kept deprecating api calls from earlier versions. This made it really hard to learn and to reuse code over time. Which was actually the big selling point of Java, “write once, run anywhere”. Over the years I used it here and there. I developed some Java applets for some webpages, but didn’t really develop anything big using it. I kept up with it for …

iPhone and iPad Promotional Services

When trying to become a developer for iPhone and iPad apps it takes more than just coding skills. I understood this when I decided to take on the task, but I didn’t really know how important the other aspects were. Besides coding you need to always think about the graphics, marketing, and promotional techniques. Having a solid coded app and a graphically appealing app are important but are not as important as marketing and promoting. No matter how good your app is it won’t be successful if people don’t know about it. There are a ton of apps in the …
