Crowdfunding Experiment – Let’s make this happen!
My oldest sister Josielynn (aka Josie) has an awesome idea for a bar. She is a mother of 5 and has done everything for her kids, but she needs something for herself. She is a very hard worker and definitely has some cool ideas. Unfortunately like most people she doesn’t have the excess funds readily available start up her own business.
Josie is currently in the process of trying to find grants and see what types of loans she could qualify for. This is a very exhausting task. While searching for ways to get funding I came across a lot information about crowdfunding ideas. For those that don’t know, crowdfunding is the collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the Internet. This is a cool way to get some initial capital or to get extra capital to help start a business. There are a few websites dedicated to this idea, but they are more geared toward internet or technology ideas and businesses.
So as Josie and I were talking about her bar idea the other night, crowdfunding was brought up. She and I wondered if we could really get enough people to contribute. I wouldn’t expect to get enough to completely fund this business endeavor, but I was intrigued to see if maybe we could get a significant portion to help out. If you think about it, a bunch of people contributing a little bit each can add up quickly. Each person could donate anything they felt comfortable with. This could be $1, $2, $20, or anything that they thought they could spare. You would think that almost everyone could spare at least $1. It isn’t like it is that much money and most people, including myself, waste plenty of money on other stupid things. This though would be something worthwhile.
After thinking about this for a bit I figured I would go ahead and give it a shot. I think it is definitely worth it to see how successful this could be. If we could raise any bit to help this idea come to fruition it would be a testament to my friends and how well everyone is networked. If you could spare any little bit and contribute to this idea, please click on the “ChipIn!” button below or on the sidebar. Also please forward this to your friends and see if you can get as many of them to contribute as possible. I know a lot of us are on Facebook, Google+, MySpace, and/or other various social networking sites. Hopefully we can all post it and see how far we can get. Let’s see if crowdfunding can actually work.
Anything you could spare or do to help would be awesome! Anyone who donates will be recognized and invited out to the pre-opening to celebrate! As this idea becomes more and more of a reality, I’ll post more information about the specifics.
If you don’t see the “ChipIn” button then you can still contribute by clicking this donate button:
I think you need to start with the details, THEN ask for our money, not the other way round.
